Apparently, so were saved several temples, including the Senso-ji, in Asakusa.Cuando fires swept most of Tokyo after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 Senso-ji apparently escaped through the barrier of Ginkgo trees from fire.
In the photos after the earthquake can be seen that the temple stands in the rubble.
